Our story
CompliMind began with a problem that Carl-Magnus von Behr saw up close. Researching NHS estates knowledge-sharing during his PhD at Cambridge, and volunteering on the oxygen supply response at Addenbrooke’s during COVID-19, he watched skilled staff lose hours searching for regulatory information and writing lengthy documents, all while urgent work waited. Carl partnered with Jan Blümel, a fellow Cambridge PhD studying machine learning, to fix this.
What started as a pilot in a single NHS trust has grown into a platform supporting estates and facilities teams across the country.

Who founded CompliMind, and why?
CompliMind was founded by Dr Carl-Magnus von Behr and Dr Jan Blümel, who met while studying at the University of Cambridge. Carl’s PhD examined how NHS estates and facilities teams use and share knowledge; during COVID-19 he volunteered on the oxygen supply response at Addenbrooke’s and watched skilled staff lose hours searching for regulatory information while urgent work waited. Jan’s PhD was on machine learning and AI in complex workflows. They built CompliMind to fix the problem Carl had spent years documenting.
What is CompliMind’s connection to Cambridge research?
The product came out of doctoral research. Carl’s thesis identified where knowledge gets stuck in NHS estates teams, and the platform is built around those findings. Carl continues to work with the University of Cambridge and publishes on NHS estates knowledge sharing.
