Meet the founders

Jan and Carl met while studying at the University of Cambridge. It was their first-hand insights into the challenges that NHS estates professionals faces every  day that inspired CompliMind.

Built from real-world insights and experience

While studying for his PhD at the University of Cambridge, Carl-Magnus von Behr set out to understand how NHS estates and facilities teams use and share knowledge. He found that even the most experienced staff were often slowed by dispersed documents and uneven guidance. When COVID-19 struck, he joined the oxygen-supply response at Addenbrooke’s and saw the same challenge play out under pressure: experts losing hours searching through HTMs, HBNs, regulations and local policies, with urgent work held up by fragmented information and time-heavy admin.

Carl partnered with Jan Blümel, a fellow Cambridge PhD researcher specialising in machine learning, to build a platform shaped around what compliance work really needs: quick access to the right guidance, clear checks against the source, and outputs that fit existing governance models. A simple prototype with one pioneering NHS trust pilot became CompliMind, now deployed by estates and facilities teams across the country to cut time, improve compliance and reduce risk.
